‘Tis the season to prepare! It’s time for Christmas parties, cards, and presents — but if you’re a business owner it also means taking steps to ensure that your company is secure during the Christmas period. Don’t let energy consumption or security fall by the wayside as everything slows down; follow our tips and make sure all of your festive cheer comes with know-how this year!
Turning on “out of office”
Don’t let anyone forget you’re away from the office this Christmas! Remember to set up an out-of-office message that lets customers and colleagues know when to expect a response and who can answer any urgent questions in your absence. Enjoy being able to relax in this festive period without worrying about missed emails! Also don’t forget to turn it off when you return to work.
How to turn on “out of office” on Outlook
- Select File > Automatic replies
- Select Send automatic replies
- If you don’t want the messages to go out right away, select Only send during this time range.
- Choose the dates and times you’d like to set your automatic reply for.
- Type in a message. You can format the text using the tool bar, or cut and paste text you’ve formatted, including hyperlinked text.
- Select Ok
Switching off any non-essential equipment
Before everyone leaves for home, take a quick stroll around the office to locate and turn off any appliances or equipment that’s no longer needed. That could include printers, water coolers, kitchen appliances and other power-sucking devices.
Turning off your Adwords
Get the most out of your budget this holiday season! To optimise spending, why not turn off advertising during the Christmas week? Since millions of online shoppers have already purchased their gifts for Christmas, turning off your Adwords makes perfect sense, since Google will keep spending whatever you have allocated, eating into your advertising budget.
Unplugging chargers that aren’t in use
Save your company money and energy by unplugging laptops during a Christmas shutdown. Imagine the savings! The average laptop on charge for 24 hours costs £1.68 – meaning that 20 employees could cut electricity overheads by about £300 simply by keeping their chargers disconnected when not in use. It’s an easy way to lighten the load while shutting down operations, so why not give it a try and unplug those chargers.
Record a new voicemail
Time to update your voicemail! Let everyone know that you are taking a break and when they can expect to hear from you again, as well as any emergency contact information. You can enjoy a worry-free Christmas knowing that your customers are covered!
